3D Objects in Still Photos

Taking a still photo and manipulating it into a gif can be a challenge. Using the world’s vast library of 3D models, researchers at Carnegie Mellon have developed a way to make it a bit easier. By replacing objects in a photo with a 3D model, their photo software is able to animate that object and create gifs that can defy gravity, logic or sense. While there are limitations for those unable to model a 3D object on their own, the software itself is impressive, as its able to replicate the colors and shadowing from the original still object.
