Mapping Bubbles

Australian artist Justin Dwyer just blew our minds with his idea to project onto bubbles. Smoke filled bubbles float are tracked by a hacked Kinect even as they’re floating away or bursting, projected with real footage of school kids from Australia. With just a smidgen of whimsy for this otherwise techy undertaking Dwyer’s project, “Floating Worlds” uses video footage put through a software called TouchDesigner, of children asking questions for aliens directed at a pair of large eyes meant to represent alien beings visiting earth. The bubble tech is rather lo-fi, just some compressed smoke and an oversize bubble blower, and the content is simple too-the questions range from “What do you eat?” to “Do you know Doctor Who?” but the idea is truly out of this world.
