WebGL Reaches For Lighting

A WebGL demo running in a Chrome Android browser, web developer Bartek Drozdz built a way to personalize a viewing experience by absorbing the environment around the viewer. Webcam Reflection uses a phone’s camera feed to generate lighting and reflection effects on a 3d object – in this case a skull figure. Even walking from room to room the 3D object is able to seamlessly transition the lighting and reflection of what its seeing. The potential here is a way to infuse augmented reality with something totally personal. Albeit voyeuristic, this app when taken to its limits could make the same scene or animation take on an entirely new environment for the viewer whether or not it includes your face.Try it out on your own Chrome Android browser here.
