World’s Largest Live Streamed Event

In case you weren’t one of the 8 million people watching the Red Bull Stratos event yesterday, it not only broke records in aerospace, but also in live streaming. The live stream hit its pinnacle of 8 million viewers as Felix jumped from his space capsule, which broke the record of 500,000 concurrent streams that Google had reached earlier this year with the Olympics. The YouTube live stream was flawlessly executed as millions of viewers logged on to watch Felix Baumgartner spend 2.5 hours reaching 128,000 feet above the ground. Then, he quickly dropped from his capsule and spent a little over 4 minutes in free fall, breaking a number of records. It’s truly an epic achievement, both for man-kind and bandwidth.
